In 2021, the library made the decision to eliminate fines. This means you no longer receive a daily fine on overdue items. You are still responsible for returning your items. A series of overdue reminders are sent according to your contact preference. Library materials still have a two week check out period and can be renewed twice, except if the item is on reserve for another patron. After materials are 30 days overdue, they are considered lost, and the patron will be charged a replacement cost. If the materials are returned in the same condition as when checked out, the replacement cost will be waived. You are still responsible for damaged material.

Access to libraries is one of the keys to improving literacy rates and the Cherokee County Public Library Board of Trustees and Director, Dana Carroll, felt that the weight of fines could drive some of our patrons away. We wanted to remove this barrier and encourage everyone to utilize all that the library has to offer. Communities are stronger and healthier when people have access to the programs, services, and materials they need. We hope this will encourage prior users to come back to the library as well as attract new users to explore what Cherokee County Public Library has to offer.
